Minutes – Meeting 5 Feb, 2.30 @ Toties
Present: Mr
Jaftha(Knysna municipality), Roland (Waste management 0781529573), Charlon
(Knysna Municipality 0835914426), Eunice(Keurhoek community), Mr Butcher(PH
Conservancy), Mrs Robinson(PH conservancy)
Purpose:
To get feedback and discuss the lack of action regarding
Road Cleanup & Bin provision
- Howard
Butcher opened meeting stating the serious and urgent problem of litter
along the roadside. Community
getting upset because they feel they are getting no services for ever
increasing rates.
- Mr
Jaftha stated that Eden District is responsible for Rheenendal Road.
Person to contact there is James McCarty.
HB mentioned that he has spoken to Mr Ottovanger in George on
numerous occasions with no luck and feels that Mr Jaftha (KM) should act
to sort out problem.
- Mr
Jaftha said that some property owners are not paying for waste removal and
using the services.
- TR
asked if rates were paid to Eden District or to KM. It was established that rates were paid
to KM.
- Mr
Jaftha said we should take the lack of services up with the Municipal
Manager.
- Charlon
asked if we could please request the property owners via PH Conservancy
and Farmwatch to put refuse bags out only on Tuesday morning for
collection and not the night or day before.
- Mr
Jaftha has the bins & poles available. He will arrange for them to be delivered to Keurhoek through
Charlon who will contact HB when they are delivered so we can take the
project from there.
- The
issue of education about littering came up and Mr Jaftha said KM have
tried and still have campaigns running at present but they are not very
successful.
- HB
will arrange with Eunice to have a meeting with taxi drivers & owners
about littering and Mr Jaftha said he would be available to attend.
- Mr
Jaftha said we should look at a more longterm sustainable solution for the
waste & cleanup.
- The
cleanup fund for Keurhoek is exhausted till the next budget so the option
of extending the cleanup along the road is not an option anymore.
